Mzansi's Kasi life on Spotlight!
This article will give readers a taste of how South Africans
life is spent in the townships, how people live from day to day, it is to
inform people who have never been to Ekasi (township) who have never shared the
lifestyle people live Ekasi, some find it more interesting and some do not but
honestly it is all about what an individual’s prefers not what majority says or
thinks.
In South Africa there are nine provinces and of all these
provinces there are places called township or Ekasi and in each township people
live their lives in a very different way.it is one of the places where you will
meet different races, different life style and people in the neighborhoods have
adapted to the fact that there are people who come from different place like
Coloured people, people from India, China, even white people.
People come to township or “location” which is another
term used for Kasi, for different reasons, to some people the location is the
perfect place for a business, their target market is broad enough for them to
open “Tuck – Shops” which is a mini market for food at a very lowest prices,
such businesses are operated by Indian people and they seem to make lot of
money because they operate in every sections of many locations.
With all things that are very exciting in the township there are also those that are not good like the high percentage of drugs that take place in the lives of young people, different types of drugs like Crack, Nyaope, Marijuana and Flakka, these are the most dangerous drugs that makes the lives of kasi people be horrible because they create the level of crime to be high which is something police have already started in looking at.
Then there is
always the other side where lots and lots of people enjoy which called
“Stock-Fella” this is an event that takes place on Saturdays from 6pm till 6am
in the following day where people would drink and dance, it all about having
fun then comes Sunday morning where our mothers and siblings go to church and
our brothers and fathers go to the place called “The Corner” where they eat
“iSkopo nePapa” which is the cow head meat and pap, that is one food that is
highly enjoyed by male people who grow up in Kasi in most cases but there are
also few women who eat it and it very delicious.

about something that people do not know about which may be helpful or informative,
good part of it is that it travels faster than I would in the traditional
media, readers can leave comments on it as feedback. There are also

ReplyDeletethis is very serious problem, well I honestly think that government should let police be hard on the drug dealers, find a solution to make this come to end there after create employment for our brothers who are at home not doing anything for living.

ReplyDeleteKasi life sounds interesting. I wish i had had the opportunity to experience it but the drug part is what puts a dark cloud over all the positives. I mean what about the kids who grow up there, dont they turn out to be drug addicts somehow because they see elders doing drugs at an early age?
ReplyDeleteit is all about choices people do, being on drugs is not something thing a young person can see from someone else and like to do as if its a great thing to do, these comes with what individuals prefers to do, other than that Kasi is a great place to be.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you with that, people should try to not judge the kasi life but try to understand that it is different from the suburb life and Kasi life style is unique, cannot be compared with anything, it has its good and bad.
ReplyDeleteThis was an interesting read, especially the Sunday "culture" where the mothers' go to church and the father's go the corner to eat.The drug use in the township is alarming,solutions to do this needs to be found soon.
ReplyDeletewell every place has its Culture, Kasi has its unique ways to entertainment and people have been living like this for years, problem with the drug issue is unemployment as soon as job opportunities could be handed to people this issue will come to end.

well its no risky but one would have to be more careful and know people so that nothing could happen to you, I would say do visit Ekasi just for the experience you may need to have and share with other people otherwise its just a normal place, crime is everywhere, Jozi is a town but has a very high number of crime.
