When education is free
the minds can be free too!!!
Why the South African future has to be so expensive for
the generation that has big dreams? The future in South African has been turned
into business where the young minds will have to pay for it in order to get educational
equipped, this article discusses more about the free education that more South Africans
are in need of in their daily lives more than any other thing that is crucial
in their lives
Have you ever imagined how it feels like to die? Not being
able to live again, not being able to live up to your dreams? Being unable to
fulfill all the dreams you ever had as a kid? Well that is just how it
feels like to not have education, it’s like your life has been taken away, from
the first day on the first grade the educational importance has been stressed
up to almost everyone as a child with awesome fantasies of driving a beautiful
car, owning a very big house with everything you ever wished for.
With all the beautiful thoughts of being a successful
person as young black man growing up in a very disadvantaged background with a hope
that one will make it, coming to varsity with a great strong mind to work hard
and graduate then get a job and then educational fees increasing randomly like
prices at one of the well-known supermarkets, Spar, Pick n Pay or Shoprite when
the country is facing inflation. Free education has been something that we all
need as students in order to achieve our dreams. In 2017 our former president
Jacob Zuma promised the whole country that free education will be given to the
South Africans.
With the given promises, many people were left wondering
that with all the Universities in South Africa how the Government will be able
to fund all the students in all the Universities since this will require
Billions of Rands in order to fulfill the given promise. But clearly the former
president could not take into account the fact that country was from JunkStatus in the year of 2016, which means the country may not be able to afford
to take that decision since it’s disadvantageous to the country, even education
is very crucial.
One of the disadvantages is the fact that taxation will
increase in both ways whether direct or indirect as form of VAT (value added
tax) which means goods in the market will be expensive at the cost of education
because the Government needs revenues in order to fund the educational system
of South Africa. While advantages are that everyone will get the bring future
and be educated be well established in life.

Free quality education. The quality is the most important part. Look at a learner from a public school comparing them to a learner coming from a private school. The quality of education they have is not the same. My point being when education is free in public institutions will it be as of the quality from private institutions
ReplyDeletethat is very true, no one should pay in order to go to school, this affects our parents who cannot take us to the right system of education but as promised to have the free education, we'd be happy if it is delivered.

ReplyDeletelooking at the factors to that question makes it look impossible because the country may just get affected, the economy of South Africa is not yet stable but we have to see what is it that happens in the next coming two to three years.

Like you mention Tax is going to increase and that is going to affect the poor mostly,who are the same people that need that education, so are we not paying for it in a way? Also is free education the way we can "achieve our dreams" or"be successful" as the way we were told when growing up? There are thousands of unemployed graduates already so is free education really the answer?
ReplyDeletehence I did say that it is something that may seem impossible when we looking at the economy of our country which is not stable for the government to take that decision and act on it, factors that affect our "unemployment graduates" is that companies are interested in employing graduates that already have work experience at least at the minimum of 4-5 years which is something our government should also have a looking at it.
ReplyDeleteWise words because i dont think its appropriate that as graduates we dont have experience but whenever you look for a job they want a minimum of 4 years of experience,so yes the government should really be looking at that and bring a change to that. And there are so many unemployed graduates so is free education really what we want?
ReplyDeleteyes it what we need after the government have worked on the issue of work experience, at least if Universities could have formal agreement with the governmental organisations to give out work experience as internships after students graduates, that could be a good thing for students to obtain work experience.
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of insight and the blog is informative and i agree that education should be free but not for us all. There are those who can afford fees very well. I say free education should only be granted to the needy not everyone because really where is the poor government going to get money to fund us all???
ReplyDeleteproblem is that, with the thought of catering for certain portion of people, may create lots of strikes because no one honestly wishes to pay but on the other hand the point you have is very valid, our country need much in terms of finance in order to fund every student in the country.
